Meet participation is encouraged for all members of the swim team,
but not required for membership. Swim meets are fun, team-building
events that enhance your swimmer's experience on the club. Competing in
meets not only helps to develop the swimming strokes, but also can
foster a more focused attentiveness to skills learned in practice. Swim
meets are the "game" that we design practices around.
Meets are
designed for competition within age groups, gender and ability. Swimmers
only compete against kids of their own experience level. As such, the
playing field is level at swim meets. Many swimmers naturally may feel
apprehension about meets or certain events at meets, but as with any new
athletic experience for youth, trying new things typically is not as
difficult at the swimmer may believe. There are countless times
throughout each season when we hear our swimmers say, "Wow, that wasn't
as hard as I thought it would be. That was really fun!"
Meet Sign-up Books are available at each pool, with instructions
listed on the front cover. As meet information becomes available form
the hosts, there will flyers placed in the book with detailed
descriptions of each meet date, location, times, fees, eligibility, and
the deadline for registration. Behind each flyer is a roster to write
your swimmer's name. For most meets, there are a wide variety of events
offered (with a limit-usually around four per day). The swimmer chooses
one event per day that he/she wishes to enter. The swimmer's group coach
selects the remaining events. This method ensures that each swimmer gets
a chance to swim their favorite event(s), while still receiving some
coach direction for development.
Certain meets have qualification levels required to enter the meet.
For those types of meets, each eligible swimmer will be listed on a
roster behind the flyer, along with a list of which event(s) each
swimmer may participate. If your swimmer has not qualified for a given
meet, his/her name will not be listed. If you believe your swimmer has
been erroneously left off the roster of eligible swimmers, please call
your coach to discuss the meet in question.
After each deadline, the sign-up rosters will be removed from the
book(s) for the coaching staff to send the entry to the host. Within a
few days after the deadline, entries will be posted at each pool. A bill
for the fees will be mailed separately to the swimmer's home.
We hope that all of our swimmers consider
participation in our fun meet schedule! |
